Leaving Certificate Class of 1995 reunion

A reunion of the Ballinrobe Community School Leaving Certificate class of 1995 will take place next Saturday, September 27, in Ballinrobe. All past pupils are invited to attend a Remembrance Mass in Ballinrobe Community School at 7pm, which will be followed by a get-together in Flannery’s Bar and Restaurant, Cornmarket, at 8pm.

Culture Week at Ballinrobe Community School

Ballinrobe Community School is celebrating the incredible diversity of the school community. This five-week project is organised by the school’s Transition Year students and will highlight different traditions, food, music and stories, and will also showcase the cultures that make Ballinrobe Community School such a vibrant and welcoming place.

Connect Safely

An internet safety course for first and second year secondary school students titled ‘Connect Safely’ takes place every Monday (commencing September 29) in the Maple Youth Centre, from 4.15 to 6pm. This online safety programme will help students learn, create and connect safely. Those wishing to sign up for this programme are asked to contact Paula on 087 2430695.

Well-Being course

A new well-being five-week course will commence in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, next Friday, September 25, from 12 noon to 1pm. Each week will see a different topic and they are as follows: mindfulness; cognitive behavioural therapy; stress and worry management; sleep and self-care; low mood. Each session includes chair yoga, breathing exercises, mindfulness, or relaxation techniques to help you embody these practises.

Ballinrobe GAA Club lotto draw

There was no winner of the €28,700 lotto jackpot draw which was held on Monday, September 15. The numbers drawn were 5, 22, 31 and 32.

The match three winners of €100 were Kieran and Ethan Biggins, and Emily Power.

Hollymount LGFA 40th Anniversary celebrations

Hollymount LGFA will hold a special event to celebrate its 40th Anniversary, on October 4, in Hollymount Hall. Music on the night will be provided by ‘Streetwise’. Tickets for the event will be on sale soon.

This anniversary is a major milestone for the club and a dedicated email address has been set up for those who would like to share photos, videos, stories, team information etc. Hollymount LGFA is also looking for volunteers who would be able to help with the anniversary event. The Neale GAA Club lotto draw

There was no winner of the €2,600 lotto jackpot draw which was held on Tuesday, September 16. The numbers drawn were 18, 21, 29 and 34. The €30 winners were Neil O’Brien, and Peter Geraghty. The €25 winners were Mary O’Mara and Fiona Campion.

Ballinrobe Rugby Club

Cliona McLoughlin was the winner of €420 in the weekly 50/50 draw conducted by Ballinrobe Rugby Club. The draw took place on Sunday, September 14. Tickets are available to purchase in Murphy’s Centra, and Martin Murphy’s Newsagent.

The Connacht Rugby Junior One (B) Division is set to be very competitive. That division comprises of Ballinrobe, Westport, Ballyhaunis, Corinthians Second XV, Sligo Second XV, Galwegians Second XV, University of Galway, and Creggs.

Ballinrobe’s first fixture is away to Corinthians Second XV, at Corinthian Park, on Saturday, October 4 and this fixture will kick-off at 5pm.

Garrymore GAA Club lotto draw

Community Centre bookings

Bookings at Islandeady Community Centre are on a 1st come/1st served basis and no club should assume a certain day or night is theirs unless it’s booked with centre management. All clubs/groups should have an up-to-date valid insurance policy/cover, no group will be allowed access unless they have insurance. Club fees are due to be paid soon towards the ongoing running costs of the centre and a member of the management group will be in touch with clubs soon.

Wednesday Get-Together Group

The Islandeady Wednesday Get-Together Group returned last Wednesday after the summer break. Now in its 12th year it is growing from strength to strength every Wednesday with a hot meal, many activities and a social outlet for people. Some additional volunteers are urgently required to help for approx 2 hours every 2nd Wednesday, from 12.30pm – 2.30pm. If you have retired or have spare time on your hands, you’ll be very welcome as a volunteer or if you are interested in joining the group contact Philomena on 087 962 6075.

Culture Night

There was great excitement in Islandeady on Friday evening, September 19, Culture night as 10 members of the Wed Get-Together Art Group exhibited what they have been painting over the last few years. A riot of colour was on display on a variety of topics and styles, and it was an evening to remember, for all the participating artists and a proud evening for their families and friends. This evening was organised as part of Mayo Culture Night, and the Islandeady group were delighted to participate and display their magnificent artwork from 6.30-10pm.The official launch was at 7.30pm…more details next week. Light refreshments were provided.

Five generations get together

Islandeady Community Council extend huge congratulations to the Walsh family on recently celebrating a five generation get together. Wishing Bridie, John, Denise, Kyle and the newest arrival little Tommy the very best for many more years.

All Ireland Mary McKenna Cup winner

Congratulations to Deirdre Moylett, Derrycooraune on being part of the winning team in Castlebar Golf Club who defeated Carton House to win the first All-Ireland Mary McKenna Cup last weekend in a very wet Wicklow.

Card games

Card players all around Mayo will be delighted to hear that the Monday night card game returns on Monday night, October 6, starting sharp at 8.30pm.Light refreshments will be served following the game.
