GAA Social Club

Swinford GAA held its first social club morning on Monday, April 13, at the Amenity Park Clubhouse. The club will meet every second Monday at 11am, it’s open to all who would like to come along and have the chats about the weekly football, go for short walk and of course have a cuppa and the craic. It is an ideal morning for retirees who love football and would like to socialise with others. The next social club get together is Monday, April 27, at 11am.

Sing a Song with Bridie

Sing a Song with Bridie Rowley on Friday, April 24, at 7pm in The White House, Swinford. This special night will feature a selection of Bridie’s favourite songs, along with a beautiful songbook sharing her story and spirit, created especially for the occasion. All proceeds will go towards supporting Foxford Alzheimer’s and Community Trust CLG / FACT Social Club. All are very welcome, so go along, bring a friend, and enjoy a heartfelt evening of music, memories, and community.

GAA 50/50 draw

Congratulations to Brendan Cunney who won €370 in the Swinford GAA 50/50 draw.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community lotto draw held on April 13, were; 4, 9, 17 and 27. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by Linda Cronnolly and Aine Doyle. €35 was won by Joanne Towey, Diane Ryan, David J Langford, Mary Maloney, Caroline Birt and Natalie Marren. The jackpot is now €4,200.

Gardening Club Talk

Swinford Gardening Club will hold their next talk on Tuesday, April 28, at 8pm in the Meeting Room on Lower Main St. Horticulturist Conor Brennan will speak on flower and vegetable planting, lawn care and give tips on dealing with moss. Everyone is welcome to attend. Non-members €5.

Siamsa Sraide Street & Arts Festival

The 42nd Siamsa Sraide Street & Arts Festival Swinford returns from July 30 to August 5 with a blockbuster brochure of a festival which will include free open-air music to Ritchie Remo, Ruaile Buaile, Stuart Moyles, Lovefest, Mike Denver and whole host of historic and cultural events. Brochure of Events will be launched in May.

Time to Shine

Time to Shine Talent Competition, in association with Siamsa Sráide Street Festival returns this August. Applications to take part will be opening very soon. All talents and acts welcome. U16 and 16+ categories. Whether you sing, dance, perform, or have a hidden talent, the organisers want to hear from you. Easter Egg Hunt

Thank you to everyone who supported the Annual Easter Sunday Easter Egg Hunt. A total of €460 was collected for the Sunflower Children’s Hospice.

Swinford AC success

Congratulations to all the Swinford AC athletes who competed at the National Championships recently in Athlone. It was a fantastic display of teamwork and determination, with outstanding individual performances across the board. Many achieved personal bests, and every athlete secured a top 10 finish, a brilliant achievement. You’ve done yourselves and the club proud.

U13 Boys 4 x 200m relay (Fionn Julian, Quinlan Gladding, Charlie Corcoran, James Darcy, Aaran Hastings and Ethan Oreilly) ran in a very competitive event, achieving a personal best of 1.58. In the triple jump U15 Jane Heaney placed 6th with an impressive personal best of 9.45m. Cormac Fearon competing in the boys U15 triple jump placed 6th with a personal best of 8.50m. In Shot Putt, U18 girls Caoimhe Hughes put in a great performance with a throw of 8.75m and placing 5th. U17 Boys Cathal McNicholas threw a massive 14.46m placing him in 4th place and securing a personal best. Back on the track Rory Gruddy ran a tactical race with grit and determination in a very competitive field, racing home to take gold in the U16 1500m. Congratulations is extended also to the Swinford AC young athletes who competed in Athlone. For many it was their first competition, all athletes performed well and the club is very proud of your achievements. Well done to Emma Darcy who secured gold in U10 long jump and Ciara Casey who secured silver in the U11 60m with a personal best.

Active Retirement

Swinford Active Retirement Club meet every Monday at Swinford Golf Club from 2-4pm with a variety of activities tea/coffee etc at a cost of €5 weekly. Why not go along and join and bring new ideas with you. Contact Ann on 087 7459089 or Bridie on 087 9049723.

Benefit Dance for Brenda

A benefit dance for Brenda Walsh Grealis will be held in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris on Thursday, May 7, with music by Streetwise and Friends. Music and dancing from 9 to 11.30pm. Brenda, originally from Callow, was recently diagnosed with PERM Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). This is an extremely rare, severe neurological disease that causes extreme muscle rigidity, painful spasms, and progressive loss of mobility. A gifted singer and musician, she is a wife and mother of four children. All support will be greatly appreciated.

Parish Magazine – 20th edition

Preparations are now underway for the 20th edition of the Kilkelly–Kilmovee Parish Magazine, which will be published later this year. This special milestone promises to be a bigger and better edition, celebrating the life and stories of the community. The committee is inviting parishioners at home and abroad to contribute articles, photographs, memories, or local news items for inclusion.

The numbers drawn in the Shamrocks GAA lotto which was held on Saturday, April 4, were 1, 14, 31 and 35. There was no winner.

Bingo is held in Kilmovee Community Centre on Sunday evenings at 8.30pm with a jackpot of €1150 on 48 calls or less, a house jackpot of €400 on 4 correct numbers and also a 50/50 draw with a guaranteed winner every week.

Kilkelly Outreach Family Resource Centre
