It was a red-letter day on Monday, October 23, as management from Midwest Radio signed a new 10-year contract with Coimisiún na Meán to operate a local radio licence for County Mayo.

The station's managing director Paul Claffey said: “It’s a great honour to have been awarded another extension to our radio licence for another decade. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved since we went on air in July 1989 and I don’t think any of us could have envisaged the huge changes that have taken place in the media landscape since then. We always strive to keep our programmes relevant and entertaining and I know that the rapport we’ve developed with our listeners over the years is quite unique.

“What changes happen over the next ten years is almost impossible to predict. That said, I know that local radio will still be an important element of everyday life in Mayo and beyond. We’ve always had our finger on the pulse and our staff continue to be open to embracing change and keeping us at the cutting edge of broadcasting. Our listenership figures have never wavered but trust me we won’t be taking anything for granted as we move forward to the next chapter in our broadcasting journey."
