Ford bringing back Capri nameplate

Ford is reviving its iconic Capri nameplate.

Ford is reviving its iconic European nameplate from the 1970s and 1980s as a new electric coupe SUV, writes Trish Whelan.

There will be two versions at launch, the Capri and Capri Premium; a rear wheel drive 286hp and an AWD with 340hp. The claimed range for each is up to 627km and 592km respectively and the sprints to 100km/h are 6.4 and 5.3 secs. A standard range version will be detailed later this year.

The new e-coupe is the same length as a Ford Kuga, a little smaller than the Mustang Mach-E, and significantly larger and higher than the original Capri series. The luxurious interior has a minimalist and digital feel, with soft-touch materials and sculptured one-piece front seats.

Charging takes approximately 26 minutes using a 185 kW DC fast charger for the extended-range AWD.

Many Irish drivers have fond memories of the Capri. No firm date has been given yet for the car’s arrival here, but it could be early 2025.
