The Tochar Valley Rural Community Network has announced that the anticipated feature film documentary, , will have its Ireland debut premiere screening at Mayo Movie World later this month.
A collaborative Irish and American effort to revitalise the Bronze Age pilgrimage route followed by St Patrick in the 5th century from Rathcroghan to Croagh Patrick came to fruition in the summer of 2024 when 20 pilgrims walked the entire 170-km route over eight days, arriving at Croagh Patrick on Garland Sunday with thousands of other pilgrims from around the world.
This feature length documentary follows the pilgrims’ spiritual journey across the west of Ireland on what was historically known in the early Christian era as the Tóchar Phádraig, as they are embraced by the rich natural and cultural heritage of counties Roscommon, Sligo, and Mayo. From iconic cinematography of the landscape and Trad sessions to local mythology and listening to the pulse of ancient sacred sites along the way, the pilgrims’ deeper calling to the ancient path is revealed in a powerful story of turning darkness into light.
Produced by Inchanted Journeys and Breiter Films, it has been described by Dr Craig Straub, ecological restoration specialist, as a "brutally honest prerequisite for the logotherapy of a well-examined life."
Chris West, NYC producer, said: "A gorgeous meditative experience that had me laughing and crying... instilling a sense of hope again in humanity. A must see and I am ready to walk!"
Ireland’s premiere screening will be held at the Mayo Movie World in Castlebar on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Doors open at 6pm and the screen starts at 6.30pm. The film has a running time of 90 minutes approximately. Admission is free, though a donation box will be available at the door. All are welcome
