Local Notes: Vincie James Memorial Cup presented to the Best Boxers at the Knockmore/Foxford Boxing Club event.

Billy Rice, Secretary/Coach of Knockmore/Foxford Boxing Club presents the perpetual cups to the Best Boxers at the recently staged 2025 Vincie James Memorial event. Best Overall Boxer award went to  Alan McTigue KFC and Best Underage Boxer to Benjamin Garvin.

Special thanks

Special thanks is extended to Geraldine and the Timlin family, Toneybane, for making St. Brigid’s Crosses for the church and to Lisaniska NS children who also made crosses for the congregation. They were blessed and distributed at Mass in the parish on St Brigid’s Day.

Archbishop’s visit to the parish

Archbishop Francis Duffy will visit the parish on Sunday next, February 16, and he will celebrate the 10am Mass in Rathduff Church and the 11am Mass in Knockmore and meet with parishioners.

Move to Music

Move-2-Music sessions are taking place in Knockmore Centre every Friday for 8 weeks from 7-8pm for just €5 per session. Enjoy an hour of easy exercise with good music. Bring a friend.

Conn Rangers lotto

The numbers drawn in the lotto which was held on January 27, were 23 25 30, 31. There was no jackpot winner. Weekĺy/season winners were Marie Dempsey, Peter Naughton, Teresa Oliver, Tom Horgan, Martin Kenny and Philip Breslin. Lucky dip winner was Conor McAndrew.

The numbers drawn in the draw held on February 3, were 1, 24, 30 and 32. There was no jackpot winners and the weekly winners were Andrew O’Rourke, B Holmes, Edel Armstrong, Catherine Fleming, Tony Moyles and Barry Nestor. The jackpot in the lotto which was held on February 10, was €6,300.

The numbers drawn last week were; 1, 7 11 and 12. There was no jackpot winner and the weekly £25 winner was Lavina Gilmartin. Congratulations to the local winners of the special January draw; Sarah Traynor, Trisha Carney, Andrew Flynn, Sandra Cawley and Peter Herbert.

Medjugorje Pilgrimage

Crib donations

A special thank you from Sr Michelle McHale, Sisters of St John of God, Lahore, Pakistan for the Christmas Crib donations received from Knockmore Church. The generosity of the community is very much appreciated and will be used for her Missionary work with the poor.

Knockmore Bingo

Bingo continues every Monday evening in the Knockmore Community Hall at 8.30pm. It is always a lovely night to meet up with neighbours and friends. Refreshments served.

Knitting and Crochet

The Knitting and Crochet group meet every Thursday evening at 7pm in the centre. New members are always welcome.

Age Friendly Mayo

Age Friendly Mayo is delivered by Mayo County Council and works to improve the services that older people have identified as being important to them and the wider community, as they live healthy and active lives. The projects they offer, in conjunction with other organisations include; outdoor spaces and buildings, transportation, housing, respect and social inclusion, social participation, communication and education, civic participation and employment and health and wellbeing.

The key contributors to this programme are the Age Friendly Alliance and Mayo OIder Peoples Council. The Age Friendly Alliance brings together, older people, service providers and businesses to change thinking about aging and how services to our older people are planned and delivered.

Ardagh

Walkway membership

Ardagh GAA Club's walkway is now open for members to enjoy. In addition to full membership the club is also offering a separate Walkway membership to non-members for the very affordable price of €20 per year. The walkway is a very safe place to exercise and to hold picnics if suitable weather prevails. Funds raised will go towards maintaining the walkway, insurance and lighting which is hoped to be installed in the near future. Wheelchair toilets are open for access and patrons are asked to keep children supervised at all times. Awards

Congratulations to all the players, teams and managements from Ardmoy and MacHale Rovers who celebrated a very successful and enjoyable awards presentation evening in Ardagh Community Centre last week. Special guest was Mayo and Belmullet senior footballer Ryan O'Donoghue who kindly came and presented the young players with their medals.

Re-turn Bin

The Re-turn bin has recently been emptied at Ardagh GAA grounds and club officers encourage people to come and deposit their plastic bottles and cans with the Re-Turn logo at the collection point. The bin is located along the walkway beside the dressing rooms. All funds raised go towards club development.

Physio required

Ardagh GAA club is seeking the services of a physiotherapist or student physio/sports therapist to be available on match days for the coming season. Details from any committee member.

New referees

Pub quiz

A pub quiz will be held on Saturday, February 15, in Healy's Bar commencing at 8pm. The cost is €10 per person. Form a team or give it a blast on your own. There will be a raffle and prizes on the night. All proceeds will be donated to Ballycastle Athletic Club.

Yoga

Yoga class has resumed in the Ballycastle Community Hall on Wednesday mornings from 10.30 to 11.30am.

Atlantic Run

Mayo Mental Health Association

The information centre in Bohernasup, Ballina is open in the community. They provide options, support and guidance for individuals and their families experiencing mental health difficulties. The information centre provides a confidential sign posting service and the drop in service is open Monday to Wednesday from 9.30am to 4pm. Call 096 71492 for further information.

Alone

Alone is a national organisation that enables people to age at home. They have a National Support and Referral Line for older people. If you are in need of advice, support or information, call 0818 222 024 , seven days a week from 8am -8pm.

Grow

Grow is a mental health support program based on lived experience. This mean Grow groups are a meeting of peers, who are striving to develop and maintain good mental health. If you would like to know more, you can call your local GROW office on 1800 558 268. You can also register for ‘Welcome to Grow’, the online orientation session. This will give you an introduction to how meetings work and an opportunity to ask questions. You can also search for a group close by to you by using Find a Group and just turning up. No registrations are needed.
