Thanks to everyone who participated in the annual Islandeady Fun Run/Walk over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Over 300 enthusiastic people participated, quite a few athletes ran the 5 or 10km in superfast time. Most people walked either 5 or 10km, some pushing buggies with little people, while smaller children cycled alongside their parents. Everyone welcomed the array of goodies and refreshments on their return.
Sincere thanks to Islandeady Cycling Club for arranging the event and to all who helped/organised on the day and all those who worked behind the scenes. All proceeds raised are being donated locally to the Ladies Gaelic Football and Islandeady Community Facilities Fund. This annual fun run has proven to be a great success once again, and is much valued as a community event that all members of a family can participate in. A date to remember for next year’s diary.

Heritage Day in Islandeady.
Heritage Day takes place on Sunday, August 17, at 2pm in Jack’s Cottage, in conjunction with National Heritage Week. If you have any historical/heritage worthy items around the house or left in the shed that you feel is unique and part of heritage, bring it along and let its story be told. The Heritage Day is gaining momentum every year and is especially popular with the younger generations who are totally oblivious to some of the customs of bygone days. This day gives parents and grandparents an ideal opportunity to explain to the younger generations, with the assistance of preserved implements and memorabilia how it really was in their younger days. Many tools and machines will be on display and craftworkers on hand to explain their various skills. This promises to be a very interesting afternoon for the whole family and admission is free, so bring your friends and family.
The Islandeady Walks Group walk on Monday, August 4, commenced from the Church car park to the cemetery and back. This road runs parallel to the new N5 from Cloggernagh to Annagh and ends across the lake from Islandeady on one side and Raheens on the other.
