League Two

On Sunday week last, Ballinrobe Town (B) hosted Achill Rovers at The Green, with the visitors emerging victorious on a 3-1 score-line. Ballinrobe played with plenty of purpose during the second half, however, Rovers were more clinical in front of goal and the guests plundered two further goals to seal the deal.

Foroige

Islandeady Foroige Group had a very active year and are hurriedly trying to fit in lots more activities before the summer recess at the beginning of June. The committee of Aoife Gannon and Leah McNamara chairpersons, Kayla Gibbons secretary, Saoirse Chambers and Oisin Toland treasurers, and Padraig McDonagh and Conor Ludden Public Relations Officers have had a very busy year, but nonetheless all agree that all committee roles have been a very enjoyable and worthwhile experience as they have learned so much about how committees function, a skill and experience that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Aaron Gibbons, Gavin Crinnegan and Ryan Mulvanny, first, second and third-year representatives were delighted with their role putting forward the views of their peers and planning events accordingly. Foroige plays a very important role in the lives of all young people allowing them to have ‘downtime’ in a safe environment while also exploring activities and events and interacting with their own age group locally and with surrounding Foroige clubs. Many of these experiences may not be appreciated until later in life, as adults or even young parents. It is a well-known fact that Foroige members often become Youth Leaders in later life, proof of the positive values and experiences they have gained in their youth.

Thanks and acknowledgement must however be given to all Foroige and other youth leaders who voluntarily give so much of their time to facilitate such clubs and ensuring the continuing safety and positive experiences of all youths. Foroige is always open to parents and volunteers to help for whatever period they can give. For parents of teenagers, it is a very worthwhile and beneficial experience for both parties, helping them to come to a mutual understanding while learning together how to deal with the challenges their youth are facing. The teenage years pass quickly so if you can be involved at this stage in their lives you are playing a huge part in preparing them for their future. Contact Julie at Foroige Islandeady on 087 6853000 or email: Foroigeislandeady@gmail.com.
