Local Notes: Scoil Chriost Ri, Enniscrone 'Seaside Superpower Garden'.
Pupils from Junior and Senior Infants, Scoil Chriost Ri, Enniscrone, creating their 'Seaside Superpower Garden'.
Junior and Senior Infants in Scoil Chríost Rí Enniscrone have been busy using their imagination, teamwork and creativity to design and create a beautiful seaside-themed entry for the Plant a Pot Woodies Competition. Inspired by the wonderful coastal beauty of Enniscrone, the children worked together to build their very own “Seaside Superpower Garden” filled with colourful flowers, shells, sand and seaside treasures.
The project gave the children a wonderful opportunity to learn about nature, gardening and caring for the environment while having great fun outdoors with their classmates. From planting flowers to decorating the garden with beach-inspired touches, every child played an important role in bringing the display to life. Their enthusiasm, creativity and teamwork are clearly reflected in the finished garden, which has become a bright and cheerful addition to the school grounds.
At Scoil Chríost Rí, great importance is placed on outdoor learning, creativity and wellbeing. As part of their ongoing commitment to creating positive learning environments for all children, they are currently fundraising to develop a Sensory Garden and Outdoor Classroom for their pupils. These spaces will provide opportunities for hands-on learning, relaxation, creativity and inclusive play for every child in the school community.
'We are incredibly proud of our Junior and Senior Infants for all of their hard work and for representing our school so wonderfully in this competition. Their Seaside Superpower Garden is a fantastic example of the joy, imagination and community spirit that make Scoil Chríost Rí such a special place to learn and grow', said a spokesperson for the school.

Stokane NS were delighted to welcome Ingrid from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland to their school for a fun and interactive energy workshop with the junior pupils.
The children met Guzzler the puppet, who helped Ingrid teach them all about saving energy and caring for the planet. They learned how the sun helps plants grow and creates solar energy, explored wind energy by making a paper mouse jump, and carried out a very exciting experiment using fizzy tablets and water that made a bottle cap pop off a bottle.
The pupils are now putting their learning into action by remembering to only turn on the classroom lights when they are needed.
Congratulations is extended to 5th year student Rodrigo Collado, Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, on achieving third place in the 2026 Columban Schools Media competition. To mark his success, Sarah MacDonald, Editor of The Far East magazine and Fr Frank Nally visited the school to present Rodrigo with an engraved plaque and cheque. The school are very proud that Rodrigo’s work features in the current issue of The Far East Magazine.

Western Gaels Hurling and Camogie Club have published their new crest which showcases the club’s origins, featuring the historic Pullaheeney location where the club was founded in 1999. The lower half of the design incorporates flowing wave currents, symbolising the rugged coastline of West Sligo and their deep connection to the Wild Atlantic landscape. The green reflects the club’s identity and the natural landscape that surrounds them. The gold detailing adds definition and a sense of heritage, giving the crest a polished, timeless finish.
