Local Notes: Rathlee NS celebrates 100 years of learning, community and achievement.
At the tree planting ceremony at Rathlee NS last week to celebrate 100 years of learning, community and achievement were one of the eldest living past pupils joined by the youngest current pupil, and staff member Martina Ryan, who proudly represented her uncle Jim Ryan who was the eldest male past pupil. Also included is Mr Rafter.
Mr Rafter, the staff, students and extended school community of Rathlee National School celebrated the wonderful occasion of their centenary on Sunday, April 26 last. The beautiful Mass in the Star of the Sea Church set a fitting tone for the celebrations followed by a truly special journey back in time with the fantastic photographic exhibition show-casing the rich history of the school.
The planting of a commemorative tree was a meaningful highlight, symbolising growth, legacy and the bright future ahead. It was especially heart-warming to see one of the eldest living past pupils join the youngest current pupil, alongside staff member Martina Ryan, who proudly represented her uncle Jim Ryan – the eldest male past pupil – at the tree planting ceremony. It was a truly memorable and uplifting occasion, supported by so many, as Rathlee NS celebrates 100 years of learning, community, and achievement.
