Enniscrone Kilglass GAA minor team and management who won the U18 B2 shield after a 1-14 to 1-10 win over Tourlestrane at Quigabar.
Congratulations to the Enniscrone Kilglass GAA minor team and management on claiming the U18 B2 shield final after a 1-14 to 1-10 win over Tourlestrane at Quigabar. The club thank the players, the management team for their work and all the parents and supporters for their efforts during the year. They also thank team sponsors Centra Enniscrone and Peter O’Neill, who sponsored post-match refreshments for the players.
For some players, this was their last minor outing for the club, while the younger cohort will now turn their attention to the U17 grade in the coming weeks.
A special thanks was extended to both teams and match referee Michael Conway for observing a minute’s silence in memory of the late Canon George McHale before the throw in.
In her 108th year, the Colleary family said goodbye to a truly remarkable woman, Bridget (Bridie) Colleary nee Loftus, Lacken, Enniscrone, and formerly of Carnaglough, Bonniconlon who died peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Bridie was predeceased by her husband Paddy, their daughter Mary, grandchild Sheena, parents Belinda and William Loftus, sisters May, Nora, Lizzie, Aggie, Eileen and Kitty, brother Mike and son-in-law Mike Walsh.
Bridie was the beloved mother of P, Betty, Esther, and Val and she will be sadly missed by her sons, daughters, daughters-in-law Margaret McEvoy (P), and Valerie Duffy (Val), sons-in-law Tom O’Hara (Betty) and Pat Boyle (Esther), grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
She lived through hardship, knew loss, loved deeply, and faced life with a quiet strength and resilience that they will always admire. She never made a fuss – she simply got on with things, no matter what life brought her way. Her granddaughter Rachel said ‘I feel so lucky to have had her for so long, and even luckier to have known her. Her strength and spirit will stay with me always. Rest in peace, Granny’.
Bridie reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina on Monday evening, August 17, from 6 to 7.30pm with removal to the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone at 8pm. Requiem Mass was held on Tuesday morning at 11am followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass. May Bridie now rest in peace.
The Saturday evening vigil Mass in Enniscrone Church will change from 8pm to 7pm from September 5 going forward and will remain at 7pm right throughout the year. There will be a Saturday evening ‘Children’s Mass’ once a month in Enniscrone Church from September.
The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, August 16, were 5, 14 and 38. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Jimmy Langan, David Morrison, Michael Connolly, and Sarah and Tommy Gillan. The jackpot in the latest draw held on Sunday, August 23, in the Pilot Bar was €4800.
The Enniscrone Men’s shed have been busy creating another fantastic new product – their very own Bingo Boards. As part of Kilglass Parish Community Centre Picks from the Past event, the committee are inviting members of the community to bring along items that tell a story about life in times gone by. Old household items, farming tools and equipment, photographs, documents, keepsakes, crafts, memorabilia, vintage cars and machinery - anything that offers a glimpse into local past. No item is too ordinary - often the simplest things have the best stories to tell.
All items are most welocme and will be treated with care. At the recent AGM of the Easkey Playground and Sensory Garden, the engineer for the project, Mark Forbes from MFA Engineering company, updated them on the progress to date and an approximate timeline for the development going forward.
The plans are in the final stages of preparation for E-Tender and will be advertised shortly. Through this process they will appoint the successful contractor and work will progress onto site. They are hopeful that this will be 3 months or the very latest, early Spring next year.
EEA went to each of the national schools as part of the consultation process. In October they will hold a card game and monster raffle fundraiser. All money raised will go directly towards the playground and sensory garden.

Mixed Walking Football commenced on Friday, August 21, from 7-8pm at Dromore West Community Centre, and will continue every Friday evening for eight weeks. The cost is €5 per session and it is a fun, friendly, social activity for everyone. All are welcome, all abilities, and all ages (16+).
The Easkey St Farnan’s Hurling Club are holding a duck race on Sunday, September 6, at Easkey River Bridge. This promised to be a fun event for all the family. Lines are on sale in local shops in Easkey and Dromore West and from hurlers. The time of the duck race is to be announced, but it won’t be the quack of dawn!

Canon George McHale served as parish priest of Castleconnor from 1986 to 1993, and during those years made an enormous contribution to parish and community life.
Canon George had a great passion for community development and was involved in many of the organisations and initiatives that helped shape Castleconnor.
He was actively involved with Castleconnor Community Council and supported the final stages of the development of the Community Centre. He was also instrumental in progressing the Castleconnor Group Water Scheme, helping to campaign for a proper water supply for the area.
He helped establish Community Games in Castleconnor and was the founder of the Castleconnor Drama Group, directing many of its productions during his time in the parish.
Those who remember Canon George speak of his warmth, leadership and willingness to get behind anything that would benefit the community. His connection with Castleconnor continued long after he left in 1993, and he remained a great supporter of the parish and its people throughout his life.
Canon George left a lasting legacy in Castleconnor, and his contribution to the community will be remembered with great fondness and gratitude.
Deepest sympathies are extended to his family, friends and all those who knew him. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.

As the Castleconnor Community First Response Group reflect on another successful vehicle run, they look back at how far the group has come. Since the vehicle run last year, the volunteers have responded to 83 emergency callouts across the community and surrounding areas, all while giving their time completely voluntarily.
When Castleconnor Community First Responders CFR Group was getting off the ground 18 months ago, they received incredible support and guidance from Ballina Community First Responders. Leonard McDonnell, Brian and the entire Ballina team were always there to help, advise and support, and they also presented the new group with a donation to help them get started. Castlconnor CFR will always be extremely grateful for that support.
Last week, Castleconnor CFR were delighted to be able to pay that kindness forward by presenting a donation to the new Cabra-Rathlee and Easkey CFR Group as they prepare to go live in the coming weeks. They are wished every success and Castleconnor CFR Group will be there to support them in any way, just as Ballina was there for them. Community supporting community.
