The Claremorris ladies team who captured the Connacht Junior title with a great win over St Brigid's.

A huge congratulations to the Claremorris ladies’ team who won the Connacht LGFA Junior Club Championship for the first time ever after they defeated Leitrim’s St Brigid’s by 2-13 to 2-8 in the final in Boyle earlier this month.

It’s been a magnificent journey for Aidan Brennan’s charges after they beat Mayo’s St Brigid’s in the Mayo Junior Final. From there, they overcame Sligo’s CT Gaels 4-9 to 0-12 in the semi-final in Tubbercurry.

Rebecca Kean was player of the match in the Connacht Final, kicking 0-4, while Laura Kelly and Nina Wallace found the back of the net in the opening seven minutes.

Claremorris will now prepare for an All-Ireland junior semi-final later this month.

Well done girls!

Sister Act

It was a special day on Sunday, November 5, with Claremorris sisters Gráinne and Aisling Hahessy were on opposing sides as Tuam/Oughterard Colts RFC defeated University of Galway in the Connacht Rugby Women's Senior League in Dangan.

It was Gráinne that earned the bragging rights in the Hahessy household as Tuam/Oughterard won 53-24, with the excellent Hannah Clarke scoring an incredible total of seven tries.

Aisling captained the students on the day.

Darts

Congratulations to Conor Heneghan and Sara Joyce who won the men’s and ladies’ singles at the Dan Lavelle Memorial Cup.

Conor defeated Galway's Mike Higgins 6-3 in the final after beating David Crishel in the semi-final while Mike Higgins overcame Roundfort's Pat McCormack in his semi-final.

The quarter-finalists were Castlebar duo David O'Malley and James Quigley, Geoff Cox of Sligo and Alan O'Hora from Pontoon.

The ladies’ semi-finalists were former winner Helen Malone and Liz O'Connor of Knock.

Sara defeated her mother Patricia Joyce in a last leg decider in the ladies final 4-3.

Both champions also had the highest checkout in their respective competitions, Conor with a 121 finish while Sara checked out 72.

Many thanks to all who attended and supported the event, to those who donated raffle prizes and who bought tickets.

A special word for Tom and Nicole Lavelle for doing the presentations this year, a family who are always very supportive of the event.

It was fantastic from Paul and Anne Hanley and their staff in The Western Hotel who ran a great show with a fine darting set up and great food and drinks. They also had a lovely slideshow of old photographs on the TV of the late Dan Lavelle with all his old friends and family.

Thanks, of course, to Martin Heneghan and Joe King who organised and ran the event so smoothly as they always do.
