Well done to Shane Moran from Glenamoy who recently completed a 10km daily challenge for Mental Health Services in a powerful display of community dedication presenting a cheque for €11,400 with his partner Emma to NorthWest STOP representative Rosaleen Lally.
Local hero Shane Moran recently completed a 10km daily challenge for Mental Health Services in a powerful display of community dedication. Glenamoy native Shane Moran has successfully completed his gruelling February challenge, running 10km every single day for 28 days. Shane’s month-long endurance feat was dedicated to raising vital funds for North West STOP suicide prevention and counselling service providing essential support across the Erris area. The challenge concluded with a celebratory final run at the Cill Chomáin GAA Clubhouse where local supporters joined Shane for the final stretch. The fundraising efforts culminated in a substantial donation, with Rosaleen Lally, volunteer chairperson of the Erris Family and Community Support Centre accepting a cheque for €11,400 on behalf of the charity.
"This free, confidential counselling service is a vital part of what the centre supports," Lally stated during the presentation. "Every penny raised in Erris goes directly to therapy hours in our community, with no expenses - just direct counselling for those who require it."
Shane expressed deep gratitude to the community and corporate sponsors who powered his journey. He extended a special thanks to Aerogen, whose employees donated €1,750 - a sum the company then matched; Cill Chomáin GAA for facilitating the final run, providing refreshments, and promoting the cause; the local shops and pubs that advertised the fundraiser and the many individuals who joined him on his daily runs.
Shane noted that his motivation stemmed from witnessing the "heartbreak experienced by families across Mayo" and wanted to ensure that no one in the Erris community has to struggle alone.

Congratulations to Kayley Geraghty, Kyle Geraghty and Francis Dixon who recently completed their Tier 1 assessment on the Severn, the all-weather lifeboat (ALB)! The Tier 1 pass-out is a major milestone for the trainee crew. It represents many months of hard work mastering the essentials of life-saving at sea. Thank you to Matthew Togher and Allen Murray for training the crew and facilitating the assessment, and a huge shout-out to the dedicated station crew who provided the training and support to get them to this stage. This on-going commitment and dedication demonstrated by the volunteers is what keeps the lifeboats in ship shape and ready to launch to save lives at sea.
What a fantastic day out for the Ballycroy Women’s Group in Dublin recently. They were honoured to visit Dáil Éireann as guests of Rose Conway-Walsh TD where they received such a warm and generous welcome. The day began with a lunch before enjoying a tour of the Dáil. Thank you to the wonderful guide, Mr. O’Curry, who introduced the group to the Dáil and the House of the Oireachtas and gave a great insight into where and how important decisions for Ireland are made. They also had the chance to explore the National Museum of Ireland and admire the incredible gold displays plus keeping a close eye out for the pieces with Mayo connections. Before leaving the center some of the group couldn't resist a picture with the great Oscar Wilde. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to organise this memorable trip, and to Rose Conway-Walsh for her kindness and hospitality.

Sincere thanks to Eva Reilly and Helen Lynch for their presentation of funds to Erris FCSC on behalf of Tuarceatha Iorrais in the amount of €1,906.20. Eva and Helen with many other local volunteers ran the Rainbows Programme in the area over a number of years. It was lovely to hear the impact and impression it made on them as volunteers, and about the positive feedback they continue to get from adults who attended the programme as children. The funding from the previous Rainbows group will be dedicated to the establishment and delivery of a new Rainbows Programme in the community, benefiting local children who have experienced loss or separation. Erris FCSC already have a number of caring, empathic and genuine volunteers signed up to facilitate the groups and hope to have the recruitment process completed by summer of this year. Further information will follow in the coming weeks about registration for the programme. If you would like to find out more about Rainbows Ireland. You can visit their website rainbowsireland.ie.
