The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community lotto draw held on August 17, were; 2, 12, 13 and 23. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by Elleen Kavanagh, Killasser and Ciaran Lambe, c/o Fraunhill; €35 was won by Sarah Rowley, Cloonacannana, Swinford and Susan Nolan, Drumalooaun, Killasser. The jackpot in the draw held on Monday, August 24, was €7,800.
Swinford AC will once again host the annual Ireland West ¾ Marathon, 10k and 5k on Saturday, September 5. Registration is open on Eventmaster. ¾ marathon starting time is 10am, 10k starting time is 10.15am and 5k starting time is 10.30am.
Swinford Active Retirement for the over 60’s meet in Swinford Golf Club on Mondays from 2-4pm enjoying activities such as table games, cards, chair yoga, bingo, musical afternoons, demonstrations of craft work, talks on speciality subjects and on occasion an opportunity to meet up just to have a chat. Throughout the year a number of trips are organised usually stopping for lunch or afternoon tea both locally and further afield.

Swinford Go Getters meet in the Cultural Centre on Friday mornings from 10.30 to 12.30.
The morning consists of an hour of Activator Pole Walking with exercises led by a trainer and music - a good way to keep fit even in bad weather - followed by tea/coffee and biscuits. The second hour consists of a lot of laughter and fun when playing Boccia a challenge consisting of two teams namely the red and the blue team. Lots of fun, lots of laughter for 2 hours meeting new friends with lots of chat. Why not 'Give it a Go ' on Friday, September 4, when the weekly meets return after the summer break. Swinford Gardening Club's next trip will take place on Saturday, September 5, visiting the Battle of Aughrim site and Interpretive Centre, Ahascragh Distillery and Mountbellew Gardens. The tour departs at 8.30am from Lower Main St. and the cost is €90. Breakfast, dinner and all entrance fees are included. The bus will leave Swinford from Lower Main St at 8.30am. Following the extensive community consultation process, a public meeting will take place on Monday, September 7, at 7.30pm in the Gateway Hotel as the next major step towards forming the new Swinford Community Council. The meeting is open to everyone living or working in Swinford who is interested in helping to establish the community council and shape its future direction. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss and agree the proposed structure, composition, representation and governance arrangements. Agreeing these matters first will give the community a shared understanding of the council’s role, how it will operate, and the range of skills, experience and local knowledge needed among its elected members. This will enable people to make informed nominations that reflect the agreed needs of the new community council. A discussion document outlining the proposals, agenda and next steps will be circulated in advance. It will clearly identify the matters on which participants will be invited to comment or reach agreement. Nominations and the election will not take place on the night. The process will be explained at the public meeting, and nominations will be invited afterwards. This will give people sufficient time to consider the agreed arrangements and make informed decisions. The Swinford Community Council will then be elected at a separate follow-up meeting. Please save the date in your diary.

To the delight of fans and everyone in Kilmovee, they understand that Sam will visit Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA grounds on Wednesday, September 2, next and he is expected to arrive around 5pm and remain with them until 8 pm. Times are approximate and may well be later.
Preparations are underway for the 20th edition of the Kilkelly Kilmovee parish magazine. The committee invites parishioners at home and abroad to submit articles, photographs, memories, or local news for this special anniversary edition. The deadline is August 31, so email your material to kilkellykilmoveemagazine@gmail.com or give it to any member of the magazine committee.
Bingo is held in Kilmovee Community Centre on Sunday evenings at 8.30pm. The jackpot now is €1050 on 48 calls and the house lotto is €1200 on 4 correct numbers and there is also a 50/50 draw with a guaranteed winner every week.
The Active Age Group meets every Thursday in Kilmovee Community Centre from 11am to 2.30pm. Come along from 11am for tea/coffee/chat. Exercises around midday, lunch at 1pm with Bingo afterwards. It is a lovely way to spend a few hours in good company, get some exercise and a good lunch. The cost is €10 a week plus annual membership.

Couples celebrating their silver, ruby, golden, diamond, platinum or other wedding anniversaries are invited to attend one of two jubilee Masses, along with their families and friends, on Sunday, October 4 at 2.30pm in Ballaghaderreen Cathedral.
