Local Notes: Epic victory for Claremorris boys

The lads from Claremorris claimed the Mayo U16 Boys Shield Final in dramatic style on the October Bank Holiday Weekend.
It was an epic Mayo U16 Boys Shield Final worthy of Sky Sports coverage. After two hours of non-stop football action, Claremorris AFC U16B team overcame a tenacious Castlebar Town FC by 6-5 after a sudden death penalty shootout at Solar Park, Castlebar on Monday, October 30.
It was a night to remember, under the moonlight for Claremorris AFC, and well done to the full squad in securing this valuable and memorable trophy. A similar feat achieved by the U15B team in 2021.
Tasting the sweet smell of success were Faustus Gudaitis, Charlie Hanley, Emmet Burke, Oisín Sweeney, Keenan Mortimer, Henry Noone, Aaron O’Dea, Hugh Lenihan, Nojus Gudaitis, Mark Warde, Daniel Healy, Cian Healy, David Montoya, Aaron Gill, Jake Moran, Aidan Brogan, Ross Connolly, Sean Slattery, Cian Slattery and Noeli Jennings. Unavoidably absent was regular ‘keeper David Walsh, who has a medal waiting for him.
In ‘Fáinne Óir’ (The Gold Ring), composer Kathy Fahey tells the love story of Saoirse and Diarmuid through a celebration of Contemporary/Irish music and dance.
This spectacular Broadway show tells the story of an Irish family living in Mayo during the Famine Years of 1845-1848. It is a story of its time and of all time. It’s an Irish story of tragic loss, enduring love and the triumph of humanity.
Choreographed by the multi-award winning, Ciara Sexton, the two-hour show, with live band playing Kathy’s original score, brings the story to life on the stage of Claremorris Town Hall Theatre from next Thursday to Saturday with doors at 7pm and show commencing at 8pm.
Tickets can be purchased on www.townhall.ie or by phoning the box office at 094-9310999.
A huge well done to the Claremorris AFC U14 Girls who are through to the third round of the SFAI U14 Girls National Cup after a 4-1 win at home to a very good St John's (Sligo) side recently.
