Local Notes: Enniscrone Kilglass Gaelic4Mothers&Others take to the beach.
A few of the ladies from Enniscrone Kilglass Gaelic4Mothers&Others took to the beach on Easter Monday evening for training. Training takes place every Monday evening from 8-9pm at Enniscrone Kilglass astro.
The first thing you notice about the Enniscrone Men’s Shed isn’t the tools – it’s the laughter. It drifts out the door with the smell of fresh timber and strong tea. Inside, there’s always something going on. Someone fixing a chair, someone sanding wood, two lads arguing over the ‘right’ way to do a job – both secretly enjoying the chat more than the work.
The Shed started with just a few men looking for somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to talk to. Now it’s a place full of life and purpose. Benches get repaired, birdhouses are built for local schools, bikes are fixed – but the real work isn’t always something you can see.
Around a small table, mugs of tea in hand, stories are shared and laughter comes easy. New faces are always welcome. No pressure, no expectations – just a chair, a cup of tea, and a bit of banter. You don’t need skills. You don’t need tools. You just need to show up. Because the Enniscrone Men’s Shed isn’t just about making things – it’s about making connections. And there’s always room for one more.
A very special occasion was held last week in University of Limerick Concert Hall where former Leaving Cert student from Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, Amy Egan (Class of 2025), was presented with an All-Ireland Scholarship by JP McManus in recognition of her outstanding Leaving Cert results.
In total, 126 students from across the country received scholarships, with every county represented – including five students from Co Sligo. This remarkable achievement is a testament of Amy’s hard work, dedication, and determination to achieve her goals.

All at Jesus and Mary Secondary School whish Amy every continued success as she pursues her studies in Pharmacy at ATU, Sligo. They are incredibly proud of her and all she has accomplished. The Kilglass Enniscrone U13A and U13B teams hosted Boyle and Benbulben respectively in McGowan Park in heavy rain and wind. The U13A boys were up first but a poor start left them 2-0 down after 10 minutes, the bigger more direct Boyle team suiting the conditions. The lads got the ball and played some good football and it seemed miraculous that the ball didn’t find the net at times but Boyle went in 2-0 up at half time.
In the 2nd half Boyle got a 3rd against the run of play but Kilglass Enniscrone responded with a Cael Quinn goal. Despite dominating the game in the 2nd half, they just could not convert any of their chances and the lads fell to their 1st defeat of the season.
The U13B boys with only 11 players faced high flying Benbulben. The away team struggled to break the boys down but eventually got through for a few goals while Conan Cawley responded with a goal for the home team who fought bravely throughout.
In the 2nd half, Kilglass Enniscrone played with 10 when one of the lads had to retire. While Benbulben added a few more goals, the home lads can be proud with the effort they put in on the day.

Kilglass Parish Community Centre are hosting their first ever Kilglass Hub Table Quiz, hosted by Billy Varley on the Sunday of the May Bank Holiday weekend. Last year the community came together in an incredible way and raised €99,000 through their sponsorship drive. Because of that support, they were able to contribute €50,000 (their match funding requirement) towards Phase 1 of the hub development.
Now, there is a €65,000 payment to Sligo County Council for their match funding requirement for Phase 2. This will be used to help build Phase 2. This is a huge milestone and something the whole community should be proud of. The hub is doing really well, but the committee need to rebuild the fundraising buffer in order to continue developing the space and supporting activities in the community. So this quiz night is about getting people together for a good night out while helping the hub continue to grow. Get your team together, expect tough questions from Billy with plenty of laughs along the way.
