New board elected for Carnacon Development Association Ltd

Since its inception in the early 1980s Carnacon Development Association has achieved many worthwhile goals in the realm of community development and the upkeep of the district and its environs. The achievements have been many over the past 45 years with highly laudable developments at Carnacon village (a magnificent Community and Sports Centre) and in more recent times a childcare centre, a variety of walks and a walled garden development at Moorehall.

At least two Community Futures projection programmes over the past decade have been wholly achieved. Thanks, has been extended to Mayo County Council, Community Employment Scheme personnel and the participants, and other public bodies for their help and encouragement down the years.

Over the course of Autumn 2026, Carnacon Development Association elected a new body drawn from the surrounding villages. The election had a huge participation level well in excess of 90%. Local areas were requested to vote for one male and female from their districts and those elected to serve of the new association have agreed to do so.

The new association has fifteen members with a good gender balance of male and female on the executive: Aine Loftus, Walter Hughes Jnr, Tony Roper, Mary O'Sullivan, Rachel Biggins, Ronan Mannion, Gerard Murphy, Kelley Clarke, Michelle Cannon, Michael Hallinan, Mary McGing, Tom Malone, Mags Donovan, Ronan McLoughlin and Cormac Kelly.

The hand over from the outgoing body to the new association was carried out in recent weeks with a successful series of information exchange meetings. The incoming officers of the new association are as follows: Gérard Murphy - chairperson, Walter Hughes Jnr - vice chairperson, Aine Loftus - secretary, Michelle Cannon - vice secretary, Mary Mc Ging - treasurer, Ronan Mc Loughlin - vice treasurer and Kelly Clarke PRO.

The incoming chairperson, Gerard Murphy paid a generous tribute to the outgoing officers, Walter Hughes, Ann Corbett and John McDonnell for their long and dedicated service down the years.

The new Carnacon Development Association are wished every success in all their projections and planned developments in the years ahead.

U21s success

Ballintubber U21 team were on song on Bank Holiday Monday last week, as despite the inclement weather they put on a fine dominating performance to beat near neighbours Mayo Gaels. But it was in the previous final round game away to Kilmovee where they really showed their battling character. Trailing by 2pts at half time a Ballintubber goal gave them a slender 1pt lead. Kilmovee then went 4pts up, but Ballintubber came back to level matters. Kilmovee again dominated and went 7pts clear but amazingly Ballintubber threw caution to the wind and wiped out the deposit once again. A point in the dying moments gave the Ballintubber boys a 4-11 to 2-16 victory after what was truly a classic game of football. Best wishes to Ballintubber who are scheduled to play Louisburgh in the county semi-final next weekend.

U21s Connacht finalists
