Players share award

S&F United’s ‘Tommy McGowan’ Young Player of the Year award was presented on St Stephen’s Day. The award, which honours late club stalwart Tommy McGowan, is presented annually to the best U11 player but this year the selectors were unable to pick just one and so the award has been shared between Heath Byrne, Eoghan Jordan and Cathal Timlin.

€825 raised

An impressive €825 was raised as a result of the football match involving the senior and Dads and Lads teams of Moy Davitts GAA Club, in Foxford, on St Stephen’s Day. The money was donated via bucket and online collections.

The club is to present the proceeds to Mayo Cancer Support, a charity that is close to the hearts of so many.

The game itself was a hugely enjoyable affair followed by refreshments in clubhouse.

Ulick remembered

Andy Neary was the inaugural winner of the ‘Ulick Bourke’ Player of the Match award following the annual St Stephen’s Day match played between the past and present members of S&F United.

Players and supporters alike contributed to what was a memorable and special day at Green Road, where a great afternoon was had by all.

Ulick Bourke, who passed suddenly on Christmas Day 2022, loved the St Stephen’s Day games so this was a very special and emotional award. Fellow Straide man Andy Neary gave an outstanding performance on the day.

The club wish to thank Ulick’s family for being in attendance, which meant so much to all involved.
