Ballinrobe Town bounce back in Senior Masters League.

Following their first loss of the season against Castlebar Town, the Ballinrobe Town senior masters team bounced back in impressive fashion after they got the better of Westport United on a 6-3 score-line, at Milebush Park, last Wednesday.

Ballinrobe started brightly against United and two goals inside the first 13 minutes from JP O’Gorman helped build a strong platform for the Robesiders.

The red and white were beginning to move the ball around the pitch with plenty of purpose and James O’Malley added a third for the south Mayo men on 19 minutes.

Trailing 3-0 during the half-time pep-talks, Westport were rejuvenated on the resumption, and they netted an incredible three goals inside a seven-minute spell to restore parity.

However, on 41 minutes, a superlative free kick from Ballinrobe’s O’Malley rustled the back of the net and the momentum was once again back with the Town.

As the game petered out, Ballinrobe made sure of the spoils courtesy of a brace of goals from John O’Donnell.

The victory sees Ballinrobe move up to second spot in the league table, and they return to action tomorrow night (Wednesday) when they face Claremorris at Milebush Park, in what should be a keenly contested south Mayo derby. This game will kick-off at 8.30pm and your support for the Robesiders would be appreciated.

Sensory Friendly Hour on February 28

Take some time to explore the Irish Folklife Collection during a dedicated ‘Quiet Hour’ - 10am to 11am, on Saturday, February 28 at the Museum of Country Life, Turlough. Museums can be busy and loud and therefore a stressful environment for many people. We are offering a designated quiet hour to provide a calmer environment for visitors. We are dedicated towards being Autism friendly. During this quiet hour, background music is reduced or turned off, and lighting in the Galleries are dimmed to create a more soothing atmosphere. Although we do not have designated quiet spaces, visitors can access the grounds of Turlough Park and can check quieter areas from visual guides within the Museum if they need a break from sensory stimuli. Please bring along any PPE that you want e.g. sunglasses, headphones, etc. Synge & Byrne Café at Turlough Park will also host a designated Quiet Hour on the same day, from 10am to 11am, with reduced noise, lighting, and music to create a calmer and more relaxing environment. Download our sensory maps and visual guides from our website to help you prepare for your visit and know what to expect upon arrival.

Celtic Tales by Warrior’s Hand Exhibition

Visit a new exhibition of art celebrating stories, symbols and Celtic myth on display in the Courtyard Gallery, Turlough Park. The exhibition has been developed by the Luisne Art Project - a nationally recognised and highly successful arts initiative for people with disabilities, based in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo. Established in December 2005, the project is supported by Mayo County Council Arts Office and Western Care, with administrative support provided by Tacú, Ballinrobe Family Resource Centre. The project’s mission is to offer a long-term, high-quality art programme that is responsive to the individual talents and needs of participants at the Crann Mór Centre. At its core, Luisne recognises the profound role that art and creativity play in fostering expression and building community. In 2025, the Luisne artists collaborated with art facilitator Noreen Lydon and guest mentors Michael Gannon and Ruby Staunton, exploring the rich tapestry of Celtic mythology. Drawing inspiration from ancient folklore and symbolic imagery, the artists worked with acrylics, watercolour, and gold leaf to create a body of work that is vibrant, and evocative. The result is Celtic Tales by Warrior’s Hand - a compelling collection that celebrates imagination and heritage. Each piece is a story, a symbol, a personal interpretation of Celtic myth rendered through the unique lens of the Luisne artists. Admission Free.
