A woman has been charged with the murder of a 47-year-old Czech national whose body was found in an apartment in Carrick on Suir in Co Tipperary over the weekend.

Karolina Kovacova of O’Callaghan’s Lane, Carrick on Suir, appeared before Clonmel District Court on Monday.

The 24-year-old was charged with the murder of Pavel Javorski at O’Callaghan’s Lane, Carrick on Suir, on October 4th.

Detective Garda Ruairí Ryan gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

He told the special sitting of the court that he arrested Ms Kovacova shortly after 2pm on Monday.

He informed Judge John O’Leary that Ms Kovacova made no reply when he subsequently charged her with murder.

The accused, who is also a Czech national, was aided by a translator in court. The translator was also required during the formal charge of the accused prior to the court sitting.

Sgt Tom O’Brien said that gardaí were seeking a remand in custody in the case until tomorrow, Tuesday, October 7th.

Ms Kovacova (24) will appear in Clonmel District Court by video link tomorrow.

Defence solicitor, Aidan Leahy, made an application for free legal aid. Judge O’Leary granted free legal aid and assigned Mr Leahy.

Mr Leahy said that Ms Kovacova would find being remanded in prison very difficult, arising out of her lack of proficiency in English. He asked that she be given every assistance while in custody.

Judge O’Leary directed the prison governor to provide the accused with every support possible.
