There's a focus on youth this week at Ballina Arts Centre

Born to be Wild is a jungle-themed show for children aged one to eight.

There is a strong focus on young people in this week’s programming at Ballina Arts Centre.

On Friday, May 10th, young musicians as well as bands and singers from across the country will have an opportunity to perform live on-stage when ‘The Core’ presents Amplify Youth. The event is an open music showcase and part of Music Generation Mayo’s Féile Mhaigh Eo – A Youth Music Festival, taking place throughout the county in May.

‘The Core’ are the Ballina arm of Music Generation. They operate from Ballina Arts Centre all year round, providing rehearsal space as well as guidance and support to young bands and individuals who want a practice room, or rehearsal space, or simply want to ‘have a go’ at playing an instrument or singing. Amplify Youth will feature teenage bands, groups, duos, and solo performers.

With an entry fee of only €5, Ballina Arts Centre hopes young musicians and music fans will come along to be inspired by this night of diverse music from up-and-coming young Mayo bands. For further information on the event or on ‘The Core’ activities in Ballina please contact PhilipCassidy@msletb.ie or 087-7485954.

On Sunday, May 19th, the centre hosts an event for even younger children (ages 1-8) when DreamWorld Promotions presents Born to be WILD! This new and exciting, jungle-themed, kids show is sure to keep all your cheeky chimps entertained. Join the animals on their adventure through the jungle with Eddie Elephant, Gilbert Giraffe and Deborah Zebra alongside Henrietta, a clever young Hippo who is always asking 'Why'? This is an action-packed stage show with lots of audience participation, games, riddles, sing-alongs, and amazing characters. Tickets, priced €12, are available at the Box Office on 096-73593, or via the Ballina Arts Centre website.

The centre would also like to take this opportunity to announce that the previously cancelled Windmill Players production of Dancing at Lughnasa will now go ahead on June 7th. See the website for further details.
