Free art workshops for children in Ballina

A series of free art workshops for children aged four to 12 years take place at Ballina Arts Centre for Crinniu na nÓg.

Ballina Arts Centre celebrates Cruinniú na nÓg on Saturday, June 6, with a series of free art workshops for children aged four to 12 years.

Led by experienced artists, the workshops will give children a chance to explore drawing, painting, collage, and working with clay, in a fun, hands-on environment. The sessions take place from 1 to 2.30pm and from 3.15 to 4.45pm. Early booking is advised, but drop-ins are welcome.

In the meantime, the popular weekly kids’ art workshops, with Ciara O’Hara, continue until June 24th. An exhibition of the works created by the children during last term will open in the centre on June 6th at 12.30pm.

Another upcoming event to look out for at the Arts Centre is the Cine Club on Thursday, May 28th. This month’s film is the Korean movie ‘No Other Choice’ by Park Chan-Wook. Described as ‘Park at his most brutal’, the film centers on Yoo, a paper expert who, when he is suddenly fired, decides to take out the other candidates for his job - by any means possible.

This week is also the last opportunity to see two of the exhibitions currently running at the centre - Ciara Tuite’s colourful ‘Daisy Chains and Data Trails’ and Cormac O’Lerys evocative ‘Lost Paintings’. See them before they close on Saturday, May 30th.

A new exhibition of Ukrainian needlework and crafts is also available to view. These works were crafted by a group of Ukrainian nationals living in Ballina and, in addition to showcasing their talent, give insights into Ukrainian customs and culture. All exhibitions are free.

For further details of these, and other upcoming events, visit the arts centre's website.
