Audiences in Mayo are set for an unforgettable night of theatre when Hawtheatre Company from Galway brings its acclaimed production of Last Train from Holyhead to Westport Town Hall Theatre on Saturday, 13 June.
Written and directed by celebrated playwright Bernard Field, "Last Train from Holyhead" is a gripping and deeply human drama that explores friendship, regret, truth and redemption against the backdrop of an overnight train journey into the unknown.
Starring Michael Irwin, Cally O'Connell & Sara Giammanco, the play follows two men who unexpectedly discover far more than they bargained for during a long night of drink, poker and soul-searching encounters. Along the way, they meet a mysterious gypsy figure who forces both men to confront painful truths buried deep within their lives. Rich in Irish storytelling, humour and emotional honesty, the production has earned praise for its compelling writing and powerful performances.
Originally debuting in 2009, the production featured the legendary late Irish actor Mick Lally in the leading role, helping to establish the play as a memorable and enduring piece of contemporary Irish theatre.
Produced by Hawtheatre Company, the drama has previously enjoyed successful runs in Galway and Dublin, with one reviewer describing it as “a story you will remember and are sad to have heard as you step off the train.”
The performance at Westport Town Hall Theatre promises to be a highlight of the local cultural calendar and offers audiences an opportunity to experience original Irish theatre at its most intimate and affecting.
"Last Train from Holyhead" will be staged for one night only on Saturday, 13th June. Theatre lovers are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
