Unique theatre experience coming to Ballina

Over a two-day period, small audiences of twenty-four people will be able to participate in an intimate show, which is based around the sense of smell.

At the end of June, the Abbey Theatre and Solas Nua bring a unique theatre experience to Ballina Arts Centre.

Over a two-day period, small audiences of twenty-four people will be able to participate in an intimate show, which is based around the sense of smell.

Created by Luke Casserly, ‘Distillations' is a response to the cessation of Ireland's peat harvesting. It is a multi-sensory performance that transports audiences to the Irish bog through scent. The work has been created in collaboration with renowned perfumer Joan Woods (Waters and Wild Organic Perfumery), who worked with Luke to capture the unique essence of the Midland Bogs.

The bog is the starting point for this olfactory encounter, which explores our relationship to place. The work is dedicated to the future of our broken landscapes, in the hope that by listening to them, we might be able to better understand them.

This production premiered at the Dublin Theatre Festival and has since toured extensively in the US, Canada, and Europe. It will be staged in Ballina Art Centre on June 29th & 30th at 1pm, 4pm and 7pm.

Tickets priced €18 + booking fee are available online or at the box office on 096 73593. As places are extremely limited, early booking is strongly advised. Suitable for anyone over the age of twelve.
