Suggestion made for site for 'boy racers'

It has been suggested that a designated site be found for 'boy racers' in order to take them off the public roads.
A councillor has suggested that Mayo County Council could examine the possibility of a designated site for 'boy racers.'
Cllr Seamus Weir has previously highlighted the 'boy racer' problem in the county.
He said residents are regularly subjected to excessive noise, dangerous driving, and the “blatant disregard for traffic rules and public safety by these boy racers”.
Cllr Weir raised the subject again at Mayo County Council's budget meeting. He said Gardai have told him they are powerless to curb the problem. Cllr Weir said he has been contacted by young car enthusiants since his initial comments.
"They are not bad people, they just love their cars," said the Knockmore councillor. He floated the idea of a designated site to take 'boy racers' off the public roads.
However, Cllr Michael Burke said he would be 'totally opposed' to such a proposal. Cllr Weir said it just a suggestion made to him.
