McHale Raceday has been officially launched ahead of its return on Monday, 25th May at Ballinrobe Racecourse, following a visit to trainer Gordon Elliott’s yard by Ballinrobe Racecourse Manager John Flannelly and McHale representatives Eoin Clarke and Mike Walsh.

The raceday itself is headlined by the prestigious McHale Mayo National and McHale Mayo Hurdle, with the first race on the evening card scheduled for 4:30pm. A competitive programme is expected to draw strong crowds to the popular west of Ireland venue.

Now in its 13th year of sponsorship, McHale continues its long-standing commitment to National Hunt racing at Ballinrobe Racecourse, with the partnership firmly established as a highlight of the Irish summer racing calendar.

A major talking point ahead of this year’s renewal is trainer Gordon Elliott’s pursuit of a remarkable four-in-a-row in the €100,000 McHale Mayo National. Elliott has dominated recent editions of the feature, winning with Tullybeg, Dufflecoat, and Western Fold. Notably, Western Fold went on to achieve further success, landing both the Galway Plate and the Champion Chase at Gowran Park.

Elliott also holds strong connections to the McHale Tiger Roll Beginners Steeplechase, a race that carries added significance given that the legendary Tiger Roll recorded his first victory over fences at Ballinrobe. The race was subsequently named in his honour following that landmark win. Tiger Roll went on to achieve extraordinary success, famously winning the Grand National twice.

Ballinrobe Racecourse Manager John Flannelly said: “We’re delighted to launch McHale Raceday once again, which has become one of the standout fixtures of our season. It was fantastic to visit Gordon’s yard recently with the McHale team and get a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation that goes into these horses — it really strengthens the connection between the racecourse, the sponsors, and the sport.”

Eoin Clarke, representing McHale, added: “Our partnership with Ballinrobe Racecourse is something we’re extremely proud of, and reaching our 13th year of sponsorship is a significant milestone. Visiting Gordon Elliott’s yard was a brilliant experience — it gave us a real appreciation for the dedication and expertise involved at the highest level of racing. We’re looking forward to another memorable McHale Raceday and to welcoming racegoers for what promises to be a fantastic evening.”

The evening’s racing will also be broadcast live on TG4’s “Rásaí Beo”. Racegoers are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to avail of discounted admission prices, while a range of group packages also available. McHale Raceday is set to deliver another memorable evening on Monday 25th May at Ballinrobe – not to be missed!
