The late Eamonn Clarke to be honoured at Mayo Sports Stars Awards
Former Knockmore GAA manager Eamonn Clarke who passed away in June 2025 will be honoured posthumously at next weekend's Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards.
Eamonn Clarke’s name is synonymous with Knockmore GAA Club and especially with the club’s glory years in the 1990s.
He was a member of the management team in 1992 when Knockmore claimed their first Connacht Senior Club Championship title and was at the helm in 1996-’97 when Knockmore reached the All-Ireland Senior Final for the first time.
Those were magical days for Knockmore GAA Club and Eamonn was at the very heart of it. He had a unique ability to bring out the very best in people and his organisational skills were second to none. He took a personal interest in every player, supporting them off the field as well as on it.
Eamonn devoted so much voluntary time to the GAA, fundraising for the Mayo County Board, generously sponsoring Knockmore teams and regularly engaging in quiet acts of kindness that were typical of his good-natured spirit. He was a mentor and friend to so many people in the GAA community in Mayo. As a successful businessman, his advice was sought out, and it was always given freely and without any agenda.
Above all else, Eamonn Clarke was a man of decency and sincerity, and his untimely passing in June 2025 after a short illness was greeted with deep sadness by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is a most worthy winner of the Western People Mayo Sports Stars Posthumous Award for Services to the GAA.
