The All-Ireland Hairdressing Student of the Year, who will be crowned at next week’s Championships in Mayo, will receive a cup named for a leading Ballina hairdresser who is a multi-time national champion.

The winner of the top prize at next week’s All-Ireland Hairdressing College Championships 2026, held in Club 23 at the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport, will be presented with the Martha Galvin Perpetual Cup.

Ballina-based Martha, who is part of the team at Allure, is one of the country’s most dedicated hairdressers and has staked her claim at the forefront of the profession by winning her third Irish Hairdresser Federation (IHF) Hairdresser of the Year Award in 2024 and is a nominee for the Irish ICON Hairdressing Award 2026.

Next week’s event is being hosted by the Mayo College of Further Education and Training and takes place on Tuesday, February 3, commencing at 10am sharp.

This prestigious event marks the first time that all hairdressing organisations, colleges, and salons across Ireland will come together to celebrate and support the next generation of hairdressing students, trainees, and apprentices.

A collaboration of esteemed judges from Ireland’s leading organisations will take part in the proceedings, representing The Irish Hairdressing Federation, The Irish Hairdressing Council, The Hairdressers Educators Teachers Fellowship and The Hairdressing Apprenticeship Consortium.
