Seven is heaven for Lacken Cross in provincial soccer final

The Lacken Cross U15 team and management who emerged victorious yesterday

A north Mayo school have captured an U15 provincial title for the second year in a row.

St Patrick’s College, Lacken Cross won the Connacht Boys Under 15 Division ‘C’ Shield Final with a 7-2 victory over Ballinode Community College from Sligo yesterday afternoon.

Despite the five-goal gap between the two sides at full-time, Lacken Cross fell behind to an early Ballinode goal. They worked hard and settled into the game and had a 3-1 lead by half time.

Ballinode cut the deficit to one to make it 3-2 midway through the second half but Lacken Cross shifted through the gears and found another level in the closing 15 minutes to seal the win and the Shield.

Uniquely, Lacken Cross had seven different players on the scoresheet as Conor Durkan, James Adams, Conor Tomas, captain Cillian McGee, Daniel Lackey, Cealan Loughney and Ryan Cummins all found the back of the net for Lacken Cross.
