O’Riordan appointed Mayo FC U15 head coach

Don O'Riordan, the new Mayo FC MU15 head coach.

Mayo FC have announced that Don O’Riordan will take charge of the MU15’s for next season.

The Dublin native brings much experience to the role vacated by Raff Cretaro earlier this year. Among his managerial roles include stints at League of Ireland clubs Galway United and Sligo Rovers and English Football League outfit Torquay United. In addition, he was part of Neil Warnock’s backroom team in the mid-2000s at Sheffield United.

Most recently, he was involved with Treaty United Women’s team during their 2022 campaign.

Mayo FC chairman, Joe Faughnan, stated: “His extensive knowledge of the game makes him a fantastic addition to our coaching setup.

“Our MU15s had an excellent season last year, qualifying for the elite phase, and are a very talented and capable group. I am excited to see how Don works with the team over the coming weeks and throughout the season, helping them to develop and reach their full potential.

“I also want to take this opportunity to thank Joe (Murray), Eamon (Daly), Chris (<acGauley), Jesper (Frisch), and Danny (Gorman) for their tremendous efforts with this group last season. Their dedication and hard work played a huge role in the team’s success. I am looking forward to seeing the team kick on and progress in the season ahead”.

Don added: “I was recently approached by Mayo FC about the vacancy of head coach/manager of their 15’s boys team for the new LOI season and after a session recently assessing the players in the squad I am delighted to announce that I am very happy to take up the role of manager for this team.

“The chairman Joe Faughnan has the ambition of the club becoming an established LOI setup in the coming years and if I can help him and the fans achieve their goal I will be delighted.

“I feel very proud to have been approached and I will give everything to develop the squad of players I will work with.”
