Tyrone's Niall McGonigle receives his prize as the overall winner of the Mayo Motorsport Club Autocross. 

Mayo Motorsport Club once again proved itself as a hub of adrenaline and excitement for motorsport enthusiasts when hosting yet another thrilling Autocross event at Harrington’s Quarry near Swinford on Sunday, April 27. With an overcast sky hanging above, competitors and spectators alike gathered to witness an action-packed day filled with speed, skill, and a shared passion for motorsport.

Autocross is a unique motorsport discipline where drivers navigate through a timed course on a variety of surfaces. Harrington’s Quarry, known for its diverse terrain, provided an ideal backdrop for this event. The challenging course, lined with cones and tight turns, tested the drivers' abilities to manoeuvre their vehicles with precision while pushing the limits of speed. The mix of gravel, dirt and occasional mud from recent rains added an extra layer of excitement, demanding not only skill but also strategic decision-making from the competitors.

Despite the overcast conditions, spirits were high as participants prepared for their runs. Mayo Motorsport Club is known for its welcoming atmosphere and this event was no exception, creating an environment where both seasoned drivers and newcomers felt encouraged to compete. The camaraderie among the racers was palpable, as friends and families gathered to support their loved ones, sharing tips and cheering each other on.

There was a total of 56 entries for this loose surface autocross, with a large contingent in particular travelling from Tyrone to compete at this excellent venue.

Each participant took their turn on the course, showcasing their driving prowess and the performance of their vehicles. The skilful handling of high-powered machines zipped around the track, with some drivers exhibiting incredible control during challenging turns. Spectators held their breath as competitors navigated tight corners and launched off makeshift ramps, leaving dust clouds in their wake.

One of the highlights of the day was the impressive performance by Niall McGonigle, who emerged as the fastest competitor overall. With a combination of sharp reflexes and strategic driving, he consistently shaved seconds off his time, capturing the audience's attention and securing a well-deserved spot on the podium.
