Mayo golf club pay tribute to a 'great friend' following passing

May he rest in peace.
Ballyhaunis Golf Club have paid tribute to a very valued member following their passing.
In a social post, the golf club said that they have "lost a great friend and true gentleman with the passing of Shane Freeman. Deepest sympathies are extended to his loving wife Orla and the three boys Ruairi, Darragh and Eoghan, to his parents Christy and Margaret and his brothers David, Barry and Mark and extended family.
"Shane will always be remembered first and foremost as a great family man who was full of integrity, who never put himself first, but on the golf course had a fierce competitive spirit that made him one of the finest golfers in our county. Many will remember Shane winning the vital match in Oughtarard to seal our first and only Connacht Shield title, and also down the years winning many Captains and Presidents' prizes. Shane served the club for the last few years as our Junior Convenor and spent many hours coaching the young boys and girls every summer.
"Shane also served with Golf Ireland as a selector on the Connacht Boys U18 team, and he took great pride in the achievements of John William and his own son Ruairi. The fight and determination that Shane showed us all over the last few years is a true testament to his character. He will be sorely missed around the fairways of Coolnaha. Rest in peace, Peach."
In a statement, Gol
"Shane was very well known in Ballyhaunis, in Mayo, and throughout Connacht, for his infectious enthusiasm for golf, sport, and life. His impressive golf game saw him play off a handicap of 2.0, whilst also taking on the roles of both coach and mentor on the sidelines of many a soccer pitch. A proud Liverpool fan and one who certainly never walked alone.
"In his beloved Ballyhaunis Golf Club, Shane will be remembered as the driving force behind the resurgence of an underage program that has experienced enormous growth over the last decade, with many players nurtured by Shane going on to represent Ballyhaunis, Connacht, and Ireland."
