Mayo League came from behind to book their place in the FAI Oscar Traynor Cup final after beating Sligo/Leitrim 2-1 in a gusty day in Athlone this afternoon.

A clever flick from the right boot of Ryan McManus from Mark Hannon’s free kick put Sligo/Leitrim ahead on 12 minutes but Dylan McKee drew Mayo level midway through the first half after a close range header from Oran Groarke’s corner.

Jack O’Connor forced Ronan Callaghan into action on 41 minutes after his brilliant free kick was tipped around the post but he found the net shortly into the second half. Ben Edeh started the move and he picked out Jason Hunt on the edge of the area before he squared it to the Kiltimagh/Knock United striker to tap in.

Sligo/Leitrim struggled for chances for the remainder of the half, going closest through Mark Hannon’s shot which whizzed wide early in the second half.

A memorable day for the Mayo League as they reached a first final in 44 years. They will have home advantage in two weeks time when they meet Waterford League in the final in Milebush.
