Manulla hit rivals for six in league awards

Manulla's Tracey Hall (centre) was the Player of the Month award winner for August, joint top scorer for the season, and has been named on the Mayo Women's Premier Division Team of the Year.

Manulla’s dominance in the Mayo Women’s League Premier Division has been reflected in the 2024 Team of the Year, with the champions being awarded with six spots.

The Blues made it five league titles in-a-row as well as retaining the Rumley Cup while captain Tracey Hall finished as joint top scorer on eight goals along with Cliodhna Flynn of Conn Rangers.

Castlebar Town, who defeated Manulla after extra-time to win the Mayo Cup, take up two places while Straide & Foxford United, Kiltimagh/Knock United and Swinford each have one.

In Division 1, Kilmore won the Division 1 title in only their second year back in the league and have three spots in the Division 1 Team of the Year. Killala, who finished as runners-up but won the Mary Walsh Cup, also have three places. The other five positions are shared by Westport United, Crossmolina, Claremorris, Ballinrobe Town and Ballina Town.

The U19 and U17 grades saw Castlebar Celtic dominant, winning a league and cup double at U19 and the U17 league title in what is more silverware in their centenary year. The cup was won by Westport United.

Riona Moynihan, who represented Castlebar Celtic at both U19 and U17 grade, incredibly finished as top scorer for both with 15 goals each.

It has been a another year of tremendous growth across the women’s game and more is expected next year, with Fahy Rovers and Glenhest Rovers looking to enter teams while work continues to progress on an inaugural Masters League for over-30 players.

All award winners will be honoured at the Mayo Women’s League annual awards night at the Western Hotel, Claremorris, on January 17.
