The Mayo FC MU20s fell to a third straight defeat after being defeated 1-0 by tabletoppers UCD in Milebush this afternoon.
Mayo were impressive in the first half but their end product was lacking, with UCD goalkeeper Karl Andrade largely untroubled, and it was goalless at half-time.
Cathal Gavin had a big chance to put Mayo in front early in the second half but his header from a Daviti Tsikarishvili corner went over.
UCD took over proceedings from here, and Mayo goalkeeper Fionn Barnes pulled of a number of big saves to keep his side in the game.
It looked like Mayo would hold on, but UCD substitute Sam Neville was tripped up in the box in the 90th minute. The referee pointed to the spot and McLaughlin buried his strike down the middle to cruelly deny Mayo their first points of the season.
