James Johnson will stay on as Mayo FC WU19 head coach.

James Johnson is set to remain as the Mayo FC WU19 Head Coach for the 2026 season.

He will also continue in his role as Women’s Academy Manager.

Speaking about his role, James said: “I am really looking forward to my third season with the Women’s Programme as Head Coach at Mayo FC. It’s a privilege to work with such a driven group of players and staff, and I’m excited about the challenges and opportunities ahead.

“This year also marks an exciting step in my own professional development, as I begin my Master’s in Skill Acquisition in Sport. I aim to integrate cutting-edge approaches to player learning and development into our daily work helping players not only improve technically and tactically, but also become adaptable, intelligent decision-makers on the field.

“I look forward to combining this journey of study with the privilege of coaching at Mayo FC, and I’m excited to see how both pathways will complement each other in driving player and team development. Plenty to look forward to next season both on the pitch and in the classroom!

A big thank you to the club, players, and supporters for their continued trust and backing. It means a lot. Here’s to another season of growth, hard work, and memorable moments.” In a statement, Mayo FC said: “James has been a vital part of Mayo FC’s growth since the very beginning, and we are thrilled that he has committed to another season with the club. Over the past two years, his squad has gone from strength to strength, and we look forward to seeing continued development under his leadership.”
