Goals galore in Mayo Women’s League Cup ties

Rumley Cup champions got their title defence off to a good start after defeating Kiltimagh/Knock United in a repeat of last year's final.

The first rounds of the Rumley Cup and Mary Walsh Cup competitions were completed last Friday evening as the Mayo Women's League returned to action after a break.

Rumley Cup holders Manulla saw off the challenge of last year's finalists Kiltimagh Knock United 3-1, with Straide & Foxford United progressed with a 2-1 win over Castlebar Town.

There were goals galore in the Mary Walsh Cup where Ballina Town lost out 4-5 to Ballinrobe Town and Killala winning by a goal against Claremorris in a seven-goal thriller, 4-3. Westport United ended Kilmore's defence of their title with a 2-0 win.

Focus next weekend is on cup competition once again with the opening round of the Mayo Cup this (Friday) evening.

Elsewhere, Manulla will host Donegal side Bonagee United on Sunday in the FAI Amateur Cup quarter-final at 2pm.
