Not to be for Mayo men as UU crowned 2024 Sigerson Cup champs

Roscommon's Daire Cregg kicked 0-10 for UCD in tonight's Sigerson Cup final.
It wasn't to be for Westport's Rory Brickenden and Ballina Stephenites' Sam Callinan as University College Dublin (UCD) were defeated 3-12 to 0-15 by Ulster University (UU) in tonight's Electric Ireland Sigerson Cup final at Austin Stack Park.
It was an uphill task early as UU hit the 2018 champions for three goals in the first-half.
John Divilly's men found themselves 2-3 to 0-2 down after 12 minutes as Niall McLoughlin and the outstanding Oisín McCann found the net for UU. They led 3-6 to 0-6 at half-time as Ben McCarron buried a third.
It was the Canavan show as brothers Darragh and Ruairí were to the fore, the former being awarded man-of-the-match after kicking 0-5 all from play, while the younger sibling scored 0-4 (3f).
Roscommon's Daire Cregg was immense for UCD, finishing up with a 0-10 total, and he took the fight to UU in the second-half, slashing an 11-point gap to five with some beauties, but UU were able to keep the Dublin side at arm's length.
It is UU's sixth title, their first since 2008.
