Mayo on the hunt for a new minor football manager

Mayo are seeking a new man at the helm of the minor footballers following the departure of 2026 manager Diarmuid Byrne.

In a statement released this morning, Mayo GAA said they are now beginning a process of putting a new management team in place for the minor footballers for the 2027 season.

“Mayo GAA would like to sincerely thank Diarmuid Byrne and his backroom team for their commitment, dedication and hard work throughout the past year. We greatly appreciate the time and effort they have given to the team and recognise the valuable contribution they have made to Gaelic Games in Mayo.

“Diarmuid has given many years of dedicated service to Mayo, including managing several Academy teams over the past decade, while also making a significant contribution with his own club.

“Mayo GAA would like to place on record its sincere appreciation to Diarmuid and his team for all their work and wish him and his backroom team every success in the future,” they stated.

The board said end-of-season reviews with the U17 football, U20 football and Senior hurling management teams have taken place in recent days.

“Following the U20 football and Senior hurling management reviews, it has been confirmed that Keith Higgins will continue in his role with the U20 footballers for the 2027 season. Ray Larkin will also continue as manager of the Senior hurling team, a position he has held since 2023.

“We wish Keith and Ray, along with their respective management teams and squads, every success in the year ahead,” they stated.
