Mayo looks to have another exciting crop of U17 footballers on its hands with the Green and Red recording back-to-back wins in the Connacht minor football championship.
The side managed this year by David Heaney and Tom Reilly thumped Galway by 10 points on Friday evening, the game ending 2-13 to 1-6 at Tuam Stadium.
Following on from an equally convincing Round 1 win against Roscommon, Mayo set their stall out early here, leading 1-4 to 0-1 after only 11 minutes, the goal expertly drilled home by Harry McHale.
With four first-half points from the boot of Evan Walsh too, the visitors were 1-8 to 0-2 ahead at the break, with Cillian Joyce the scorer of both points for the bewildered Tribesmen.
The potential of a Galway comeback could not be ruled out when Charlie Killeen bagged them a goal with the opening score of the second-half, however, that was swiftly negated by Mayo’s second major, arriving in the 36th minute from Oisin Deane.
The rate of scoring dipped considerably for the remaining 25 minutes, but Dylan Flynn, Kobe McDonald and the excellent Walsh kept the scoreboard ticking over for Mayo who already look the team to beat within the province.
Roscommon were 2-15 to 1-9 winners over Leitrim, also on Friday evening.
