Reigning senior champions Ballina Stephenites began their campaign in convincing fashion with a big victory at James Stephens Park against Ballyhaunis, scoring 3 goals en route to victory.
In the same group one of the weekend’s most highly anticipated games, Garrymore versus Intermediate champions Crossmolina Deel Rovers, ended in a draw.
Knockmore ran out winners against Balla after a first half goal set them up nicely for a second half in which they pulled away from their opponents.
In the Intermediate Championship, more misery was inflicted on Castlebar Mitchels, following their senior team’s defeat to Belmullet on Saturday evening, as their B team lost by 7 points against Ballinrobe.
The Neale made the long journey up to Cill Chomain and came away empty-handed with Justin Healy’s second half goal coming at a crucial point in the match for Nigel Reape’s side.
Cill Chomain’s neighbours Kiltane made it a truly blissful weekend in the barony, coming from several points behind and a man down to pick up a famous victory away to Parke KC.
Last year’s beaten Intermediate finalists Moy Davitts got their campaign off to a winning start against Kilmaine.
In the Junior Championship, Achill and Eastern Gaels could not be separated and yet another game ended in a draw.
James Harrington and Ciaran Gaughan both hit the back of the net as Bonniconlon had a big win against Ballycroy.
Luke Lydon netted a brace of goals to help Shrule/Glencorrib on their way to victory against Swinford.
