The first semi-finalists in the Mayo GAA Senior and Intermediate Club Championships were confirmed earlier today as the quarter-final stages got underway.
In Senior, Ballina Stephenites kept their three-in-a-row hopes intact as they led from start to finish to see off Ballaghaderreen 1-14 to 2-7.
14-man Westport pulled off an epic comeback against Breaffy as they turned around a nine-point deficit with 20 minutes remaining to defeat the home side 2-16 to 1-16.
There was also a senior relegation playoff semi-final in Garrymore this evening as Aghamore overcame local rivals Ballyhaunis 1-15 to 0-13 to retain their senior status, while Ballyhaunis will now meet either Charlestown or Mayo Gaels in the relegation final.
The first of the Intermediate quarter-finals saw Kilmeena defeat Kilmaine 0-20 to 1-12 to keep their hopes alive of bouncing straight back to senior at the first time of asking.
The other quarter-final was in Sean Duffy Park and Ardnaree inflicted more quarter-final heartache on Parke Keelogues Crimlin, with Ronan O’Malley’s second half goal the difference in a 1-11 to 0-12 victory.
In the Junior Championship, top spot in Group 1 was up for grabs and Ardagh claimed it in convincing fashion as they beat last year’s runners-up Bonniconlon 3-11 to 0-9.
