Mayo All Star Danielle Caldwell critical of lack of double-header fixtures

Mayo All Star Danielle Caldwell says she believes an increase in Mayo double-header fixtures would lead to an increase of spectators
Mayo All-Star Danielle Caldwell has criticised the lack of male-female National League double-headers.
The Castlebar Mitchels defender believes fixture-makers are not making a big enough effort to arrange double-headers.
Danielle stated Mayo’s ladies and men’s senior football teams have faced the same county opposition multiple times this spring at on the same weekend.
“This year there's been so many opportunities for double-headers with Mayo alone; the Galway, Kerry and Dublin games could have been double-headers,” she said. "Obviously, someone in the LGFA is making these fixtures on the same weekends, the same dates, but they're not being facilitated."
Danielle said she does not understand the logic behind the reluctance to arrange double-headers.
"I know it is a very hard situation to navigate. But the only people that suffer are the players, we don't get as many viewers at our games," she told RTÉ at the launch of John West Feile 2024.
Danielle said she can envisage that double headers would increase the number of spectators viewing the matches and the whole development of the ladies game.
"That would be a huge advantage for the ladies game," she added.
Mayo’s form has been relatively mixed during their five matches so far in Division 1 of the Lidl Ladies National Football League, with two wins, two losses, and one draw.
