Expenditure on Mayo county teams up in 2023

The Mayo County Board’s overall expenditure on county teams has risen in 2023.
Team administration expenses for the senior football, senior hurling, U20, U17 and Development teams are up to €1.2 million in 2023 from €1.083 million in 2022.
Expenses for the senior football team make up almost three-quarters of the total figure, with €809,872 spent this year compared to €644,078 last year. Expenditure on the senior team breaks down into a number of categories such as expenses on team management, which is up to €83,213 from €47,516 last year. Expenditure on backroom team personnel for the senior team is up to €211,166 from €148,819 last year.
Expenses for the senior hurling team are down to €193,950 from last year when €228,909 was spent by the county board. Expenses for the U20/U17/Development teams are €229,986 this year compared to €210,519 last year.
Coaching and development expenditure on coaching expenses and Cul Camps is up to €549.835 from €440,065 last year.
Expenditure on referees and medals & trophies were both up to €95,811 and €45,815 from €67,992 and €20,152 respectively. Treasurer Valerie Murphy said these increases may be down to the time of the year that Mayo GAA receives invoices and requests for payment, some may fall within the time frame of the current financial year but ultimately be expenses from the previous calendar year.
In terms of income, Gate receipts were down from €511,105 last year to €439,186 this year while commercial income is also down from €1.3 million last year to just over €1 million this year. However, there was an increase in income from Mayo GAA TV, up to €124,694 from €110,697 last year.
Income from fundraising initiatives such as the Club Development Draw and Cairde Maigh Eo are down to €493,395 from €528,347. However, last year’s figure included €15,546 raised through the Mayo Heroes Wall project.
Income from associated bodies, such as the Central Council and Connacht Council has also increased from €677,591 in 2022 to over €1 million this year.
Mayo GAA’s overall expenditure for 2023 was around €3.2 million and the total income was just over €4 million, giving a surplus of income over expenditure of around €776,000. Last year’s surplus was €1.1 million.
