Celtic appeal on Connacht Cup replay ruling set for next week

A verdict on whether Castlebar Celtic and Salthill Devon will have to replay the Connacht Cup semi-final should be know this Friday.

A decision on the appeal by Castlebar Celtic with regard to the decision to replay their Connacht Cup semi-final against Salthill Devon is set to be heard on Friday, June 7 at 12 noon.

The Super League champions won the original fixture 1-0 earlier this month, but Salthill successfully appealed the result to the Connacht’s Football Association’s protest committee on the grounds that rules regarding the appointment of neutrals match officials for the semi-finals had been broken.

Consequently, Celtic have since appealed the Connacht’s FA’s decision to the Disciplinary Control Unit of the FAI, with their argument being that the breach of the ruling was not made by the club and should not be punished for it.

If the FAI upholds the Connacht FA’s decision, the Western People understands that the replay will be held on Sunday, June 9. The Connacht Cup final will then be played the following Sunday, (June 16) with Castlebar Celtic or Salthill Devon taking on Maree/Oranmore.
