Castlebar Celtic win FAI appeal over Connacht Cup replay ruling

Castlebar Celtic can now look forward to a Connacht Cup Final later this month after they successfully won their FAI appeal with regard to a replay ruling by the Connacht Football Association.

Last month, the Hoops defeated Salthill Devon in the semi-final 1-0 but the Galway Premier Division successfully appealed the result to the Connacht FA’s protest committee on the grounds that rules regarding the appointment of neutrals match officials for the semi-finals had been broken, and the game was ordered to be replayed.

Celtic, however, appealed that decision to the Disciplinary Control Unit of the FAI, with their argument being that the breach of the ruling was not made by the club and should not be punished for it. That hearing was heard today (Friday) and the club have won their appeal, bringing the long-running saga to a close.

The Western People understands that the final will be on Sunday week, June 16, with Maree/Oranmore the opponents. A venue has yet to be confirmed.
