Sounds of South America at Ballina Arts Centre

Guitarists Eduardo Martín and Ahmed Dickinson deliver their globally-acclaimed performance ‘The Bridge' at Ballina Arts Centre next weekend.

This Saturday, April 13th, Ballina Arts Centre will transform its gallery area into an intimate space in which to experience the South American rhythms of Cuba’s most internationally acclaimed guitar duo.

The cosy setting will enable audience members to have an up-close experience with guitarists Eduardo Martín and Ahmed Dickinson as they deliver their globally-acclaimed performance ‘The Bridge'.

Martín, a Grammy Award nominee, is internationally recognised as one of the most sought-after composers for contemporary guitar. His works have been performed and recorded on five continents. Dickinson is one of the finest performers of the Cuban classical guitar school. A sophisticated virtuoso, he has performed at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, The Sage Gateshead, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and Barbican.

‘The Bridge’ is a compilation for two guitars, composed by Martín, in which cinematic pieces sit alongside Cuban tumbaos and slap bass; and where classical rock stylings merge with old Yoruba chants, feel-good rumbas, funk- boleros and new age tunes.

With their natural sense of Cuban and Caribbean rhythm, the duo use the guitar to convey all the melodic and rhythmic intricacies of South-America's cultural diversity. Renowned for their musical empathy, they transform their concerts into a vehicle that connects, incorporates, and juxtaposes the styles of their two different generations and encompasses the spiritual journey that they feel drives their work.

This incredibly special performance is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to see these exceptional performers in a remarkably close setting. Tickets are available online at www.ballinaartscentre.com or from the Ballina Arts Centre's box office at 096-73593. Advance booking is advised.
