Sligo Rovers have suffered a significant departure ahead of the 2025 League of Ireland Premier Division season.

Bit O'Red's number one loanee shot-stopper Edward McGinty has left Sligo for Tallaght to join Shamrock Rovers.

The 25-year-old, who was ever-present in John Russell's side last season, was on loan at the club from Oxford United during the 2024 campaign and helped the Bit O'Red to a sixth-place finish - 10 points adrift of a European spot.

Speaking on his departure, McGinty said: "Playing for Sligo Rovers will always be a privilege to me and moving on is always difficult. Last season was a pleasure to be a part of and I thank John Russell, Ryan Casey, Richard Brush and all my teammates for making it possible.

"Thank you to the fans and the community of Sligo who I will always love and support no matter what. Up the Bit O'Red."

Former Westport United goalkeeper, Conor Walsh, recently re-signed with Rovers as he aims to make his senior breakthrough at the Showgrounds.
