As children across Ireland and the world count down the hours to Christmas morning, Santa has already started his journey delivering presents to children elsewhere in the world.

According to our sources, Santa's sleigh is expected to enter Irish airspace to deliver presents to children here between 8.30pm and 9pm on Christmas Eve.

The Taoiseach has already given clearance for Santa and his reindeer to enter Irish airspace tonight, and the DAA, meanwhile, said the sleigh has received clearance to pass over Irish skies.

So, children had better be tucked up in bed by then!

For those who cannot wait, or want to know when exactly Santa will be near, you can track Santa's progress live with Norad's Santa simulator, providing up-to-date information on his location, and giving you an indication of when you need to leave out the milk and biscuits, and when you need to be in bed asleep!

The Santa tracker is run by the North American defence agency, Norad.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of this particular tracker, which has evolved over the years as technology has advanced. It now includes a live videostream which simulates Santa’s progress as he delivers presents to children across the world.

Santa should expect dry and settled conditions once he starts crossing Ireland, with Met Éireann forecasting a cold, dry night for Santa and his reindeer with mostly clear skies for late evening and overnight.
