Registration is now open for the TELUS International Liquid Motion Salmon Run Triathlon, which will take place in Ballina this Saturday, July 27.

This is the third consecutive year that TELUS International, which is headquartered on Emmet Street in the heart of Ballina, will sponsor the event in partnership with Liquid Motion. This year, TELUS welcome a new partner, Mayo Mental Health.

No prior experience is necessary. For those who have never taken part in a Triathlon before, a Triathlon is a unique challenge but one that is accessible to athletes of all abilities. It sees you completing three legs of a race - one in the water, one on a bike and one on foot.

This year’s event will see participants swim 750m down the river Moy and then hop on their bike for a cycle out and back the Killala Road. This will bring them past Belleek Woods before they then finish with a scenic run down to the Quay and back to Bachelor's Walk.

Vice President of Operations at TELUS International AI Data Solutions Enda Cunnane said the Salmon Run Triathlon is a highlight of both the local calendar in Ballina and the TELUS calendar.

“It is an honour to be sponsoring this fantastic community event for the third consecutive year. The annual Salmon Run is something we now look forward to each summer here in TELUS International. We are thrilled that Mayo Mental Health is also coming onboard this year,” he said.

Chairman of Liquid Motion Triathlon Club Mark Reynolds said the anticipation levels are high for this event as always. This event also comes as part of celebrations of Liquid Motion’s 20th year on the move in Ballina.

“The Salmon Run Triathlon is our flagship event here and we welcome TELUS International AI Data Solutions’ sponsorship for the third year. With their involvement, 2024 is shaping up to be another great year,” he said.

Mayo GAA footballer and Mayo Mental Health Association Community Liaison Officer Padraig O’Hora also commented in the lead up to the event. He said the Salmon Run has positive effects on both physical and mental health.

“I always say that if you’re not feeling yourself, talk to someone. Anyone. Twist off the lid and release.

“The Salmon Run is the perfect opportunity for someone to take the first step to utilise swimming as that release. The sprint triathlon is a perfect race for beginners and non-beginners due to its scenic flat course.”

Those interested in participating may register by visiting www.triathlonireland.com. Registration is officially open.
